WAIPARA RIESLING 2009
Released April 2010
The wine is a blend from the McKenzie and Besley vineyards. The grapes are harvested during late April and early May in excellent condition, pressed and cold settled to retain fruit flavour. The wine has fresh lime juice and apple flavours balanced with obvious residual sweetness and a crisp, clean finish. This wine has plenty of fruity characters to make it enjoyable drinking when youthful, but will certainly develop rich honey-like bouquet with bottle maturation. Could cellar for 5-7 years.

Winemaker’s Comments
The grapes are from four different vineyard sites that give a range of ripeness and hence different flavours
The different vineyards each impart their own distinctive character, the structure of the wine reflects the soil type, the heavier soils provide body and structure, the lighter soils add fresh aromatics and a hint of mineral character.
This wine represents the best expression of fruit driven flavours from the low cropping but excellent 2007 vintage. It shows ripe lime citrus flavours contrasted with fresh granny smith apple and hints of mineral characters. The wine has medium residual sweetness well balanced by the crisp acidity to finish clean and fresh. This wine is perfect drinking now while young but will reward cellaring for up to 10 years Enjoy with chicken, pork or seafood dishes.
Screw top closure is used to preserve fresh fruit flavours and to allow the wine to age gracefully and reach its full potential with no bottle-to-bottle variation.
